What the workshop makes
Stitched by hand, not machine
Every bag is saddle-stitched by a leather worker in Bhuj — two needles, one waxed thread.
Vegetable-tanned leather
Buffalo hide tanned with bark, not chrome. It smells like leather and ages into a patina.
Small batches of 8–15
We make what the workshop can finish well in a week. When a piece sells out, it waits its turn.

The craft
Two pairs of hands, three to five days
In the villages around Bhuj, leatherwork and embroidery have never been separate trades. A leather worker cuts the hide, wets it, shapes it over a wooden form and saddle-stitches the seams by hand — two needles crossing through one hole, the way a camel saddle was stitched a century ago.
The embroidered panel comes from a different house altogether. Women of the Rabari and Ahir communities work mirror, chain and interlacing stitch at home, in daylight, between cooking and cattle. A single panel can take a full day.
That is why our batches are small and why no two pieces are identical. A slightly different mirror placement, a thread that sits a little differently — that's the hand of the person who made it, not a defect.
